Hi Friends,
I don’t want to hear a single word about the end of summer, you hear me? We are at the zenith of goodness. It’s peak produce season and we are riding this high on a chariot made of tomato sandwiches. There is nothing to worry about except getting it while the getting’s good. As a Virgo with an early September birthday, it still hurts my 42 year old feelings that the end of August is conflated with the End of Fun. Unless you’re going back to school, which would have to be a post-doc given this newsletter’s demographic, embrace that summer has many more weeks ahead.
It’s harvest season, but we’re doing some sowing too. The bulb catalogs are showing up and Hudson Valley Seed Co. has sent me their tenth email about planting shallots. Goldfinches have been hanging off my one accidental 10’ sunflower, eating the seeds and pooping them out to grow in even more inconvenient places next year.
I’m spending a lot of time thinking about what I hope to harvest for M&L next year, and what I have to sow now. This morning a distiller and entrepreneur I admire just threw out the idea of partnering on a local sprits fest along the lines of the wonderful Atlantis Wine Fair, which is a dream I’ve had since starting Women Who Whiskey - HV in 2019. Sometimes a seed isn’t dead, it’s just waiting for the right conditions to sprout. In the meantime, I have been reaching out to restaurants, venues, producers and chefs about organizing a supper club series in 2027. Some respond, some don’t. Maybe they’ll spring up unexpectedly at some point in the future when the conditions are right. (If you’re interested in working together, let’s talk!)
Audrey Hepburn is quoted, “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” Twee and apocryphal? Maybe! But it’s a belief this control freak Virgo can hold on to for a few more weeks.

Always a 50% sliding scale for trans siblings and sex workers. I have been waxed by Uncle Nat and it was actually kind of fun? I got to hang out with their Frenchie named Moo Moo.
